THE ROLE OF EACH PARTS IN PLATE DOOR LOCK

Plate door lock is one of the most commonly used nowadays. It has a horizontal handle that brings convenience for user to open/lock the door. There are 3 parts of a plate door lock: lever handles, mortise lock and cylinder.

Lever handle: is a part that brings the aesthetics to the plate door lock and connected to latch bolt to help the user open/close the door. The lever handle has a plate covering the outside of the lock handle and the key holder to create the certainty of the lock. The mortise with double throw is more popular because of higher safety. The latch bolt was made from brass to prevent rust and lock jam. The forend is usually made of the same material as the lock handle. The other inside parts of the mortise lock are also made from galvanized steel or zinc alloy to ensure the smooth operation with the cylinder.

Cylinder: connected to the mortise lock to create motion for the deadbolt to lock the door. Usually, thieves will choose the cylinder is the first place to attack when they break the door lock. Therefore, the cylinder and the core must be made of brass to ensure the smoothly rotation. The core has different number of intricate details and hole balls to prevent copying or unlocking with key-breakers. The core with 7-hole ball is the most common cylinder nowadays. The cylinder has 2 types: the single-cylinder is usually installed for toilet, room doors and double-cylinder for main doors. The stiffness of cylinder will definitely bring high security to the lock set.
